Healthy habits – taught at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley!

You! You are the reason we can provide hope and help to those who need it most in our community. The Lord is so good to us and provides donors and resources that truly make an impact in the lives of those who are working to grow out of homelessness in Youngstown, Ohio.

Many wonderful things happen at the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley every day and we thought you would appreciate this! Were you aware that our guests take part in a free nutrition education program provided by our friends at the SNAP-Ed Mahoning County Extension?

SNAP-Ed is a program that teaches low-income individuals and families how to make healthy food choices and be physically active. It is funded by the USDA and delivered by the Ohio State University Extension.

Weekly, Ruth from OSU Extension comes to the Mission and leads a six-week SNAP-Ed program for our clients. She covers topics such as food groups, portion sizes, food labels, meal planning, budgeting, food safety, and physical activity. Today the dining hall was packed to capacity with men, women, and children sampling healthy food items and learning together.

The SNAP-Ed program is a great way for our clients to learn new kitchen skills and improve their health and well-being. We are also so thankful.

P.S. If it’s been a while since you have toured the Mission, come and see for yourself the impact of your support. You are always welcome at the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Give Crystal a call at 330-744-5485 X 514 to set up a time.

P.S.S. Do you have an idea for a volunteer program or resource that could benefit up to 186 men, women, and children who stay at the Mission every night? Call Greta to discuss volunteer opportunities at 330-744-5485 X 513.
