What's New
It’s National Volunteer Week and we are celebrating!
Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event Planned for Saturday April 22, 2023, at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley
Past and Present volunteers, as well as those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to RSVP and welcome to attend from 10am-11am in the Mission’s Dining Hall.
The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley recorded an incredible 11,911 hours of volunteer time last year. Volunteers help in many areas of the ministry from serving and prepping meals to helping in our offices, reading to kids, and teaching Bible classes. Volunteers have been vital to the Mission for 130 years.
According to the Point of Lights website “National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world. It takes place every April during Global Volunteer Month.”
“Our volunteers bring joy to the Mission. Seeing people who are dedicated and just want to help means a lot to our clients and to our staff”, said Lynn Wyant Chief Development Officer. “Financial gifts as well as compassionate volunteers are what the Mission relies on to serve the men, women, and children who come through the Mission’s door each day and lately we have been operating at capacity. With a full house and our dining hall filled for each meal, the extra hands are so appreciated and much needed” Wyant added.
The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley will recognize and thank our volunteers during National Volunteer week, (April 16- 22, 2023) with an appreciation event Saturday April 22, 2023, from 10am-11am in the Mission’s dining hall located at 1300 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The Rescue Mission’s CEO John Muckridge will share an update and COO Jared Woodward will speak about the impact volunteers have on the Mission. The Mission’s new Volunteer Coordinator, Greta Magazzine will be introduced, and volunteers will have an opportunity to meet one another and enjoy fellowship. There will be worship music sung by Bridgette Bratton accompanied by her husband, Chris, who will play the guitar. Additionally, a current client will share their experience at the Mission with our guests. Staff will then serve brunch to volunteers.
The staff and board members of the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley truly appreciate the 484 individual volunteers and the 60 groups who served our clients faithfully last year!
The Mission is asking current volunteers and past volunteers to RSVP to attend the event. Volunteers are encouraged to invite and RSVP friends and family for the celebration and use this event as an opportunity to introduce new supporters to the Mission. Tours will also be available.
Anyone interested in volunteering is also welcome to attend the event. For more details or questions, please contact the Mission’s Volunteer Coordinator, Greta Magazzine at 330-744-5485 x 513.
