– A little history –
The need and timeline

Learn about our timeline of the construction progress.

The idea of building a new Rescue Mission in Youngstown has been talked about since the 1970s. Operating in a 27,000 square foot deteriorating structure constructed in 1930, the Mission’s need for a new home became more urgent over time and the “Move Our Mission” campaign was launched with a groundbreaking on October 31, 2019. The campaign concluded with the “Supply Our Shelter” campaign’s ribbon cutting on Friday, November 12, 2021. The entire building and its furnishings are debt free thanks to the Lord’s provision through the generosity of our donors.

– A true blessing –
Facts about the new building

For the first time, Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley is operating in a building that was designed and built to meet the needs of our guests – men, women and children. Strategically located on Youngstown’s North Side, the Mission is on the WRTA bus route and close to many of the agencies and resources that our guests utilize as they transition out of homelessness. This 50,000 square foot building is broken into four quadrants. The left side of the ministry is for women and families and offers semi-private rooms to accommodate up to 86 guests. The right side is for men and offers two 30-man bunk rooms as well as semi-private rooms for up to 40 individuals. The rear of the building houses our dining hall for our guests as well as the public. And the center of the facility is for administration and Biblical Counseling / Case Management. The dining hall seats 90 guests and offers three seatings daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The chapel seats 90 guests and is used daily for staff devotions at 8am and 3pm as well as for client chapel at 4pm weekdays and Sunday Chapel services at 9am.
