In Celebration of National Volunteer Week, Annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch Planned for Sat. April 22, 2023 at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley

Past and Present volunteers, as well as those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to RSVP and welcome to attend from 10am-11am in the Mission’s Dining Hall.

The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley recorded an incredible 11,911 hours of volunteer time last year. Volunteers help in many areas of the ministry from serving and prepping meals to helping in our offices, reading to kids, and teaching Bible classes. Volunteers have been vital to the Mission for 130 years.

Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley Invites Community to Join the Battle Against Poverty During National Poverty in America Awareness Month

“In our fiscal year 2022, the Mission served 60,518 meals to people in need – a 66% year-over-year increase from the year prior.”

Youngstown, Ohio …  January is National Poverty in America Awareness Month, a time to recognize and bring awareness to individuals and families living in poverty in the United States. In conjunction with the national initiative, Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley urges the community to partner to help those affected by poverty in The Valley.

National Cupcake Day 12/15 & 12/16!

Bake Me Treats in Poland has teamed up with the Mission to “bake a difference” for our guests staying in our shelter. Today and tomorrow (12/15 and 12/16) when you purchase cupcakes at Bake Me Treats they will offer a Buy One Give One promotion! And your “give one” will be a treat for someone staying at the homeless shelter on Christmas Eve. Thanks to everyone involved and Merry Christmas!

Mahoning Valley Coffee Trail sells out in 58 minutes!

The first Mahoning Valley Coffee Trail event held by Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley launched on National Coffee Day (September 29, 2022) to great enthusiasm! All 500 Trail Guides were sold out in under one hour. Those who gave a donation for the trail guide will now be treated to a free coffee from sixteen local coffee shops. Those who complete the entire trail in six weeks, collecting each stores code, have the opportunity to mail their guide back to the Mission to be entered in the grand prize drawing.

New Bible Study Launching at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley – All are welcome!

Beginning Wednesday, July 13th, join the Mission’s President/CEO, John Muckridge for a verse-by-verse study of the book of Revelation. Open to everyone, there is plenty of free parking in front of the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Join us each Wednesday, beginning July 13, 2022 at 6:00pm for a forty-five minute time of study.

Youngstown, Ohio… Next time you are at the lumber yard, place an order at a local restaurant, get your oil changed or have one of many daily encounters with someone you do not know, you may be surprised to learn that the person assisting you may be experiencing homelessness.

Traditionally, the clients seeking shelter at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley faced barriers and difficulty finding work.

Average number of children sheltered overnight at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley has tripled since move to new shelter location.

The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley has been in existence since 1893 and serves men,
women and children who are experiencing homelessness by providing emergency overnight
shelter. Additionally, because of the Lord’s faithfulness poured out through the community’s
generosity, the Mission shares three full meals daily to anyone in need and offers many tracks
and resources helping our guests grow out of homelessness.

In 1982, the Mission addressed a need in The Valley when the Women and Families
Department was added to the ministry.
