Meet Ken: A Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley supporter with a Big Heart
Ken was born in downtown Youngstown near West Federal Street in the 1930’s. One of ten brothers who grew up during the Great Depression and World War II, life was not easy for him in the Valley. To help his family survive, Ken delivered newspapers as a boy and walked three miles to Mill Creek Park just to get water.

Derrick Patterson found himself homeless and in need of emergency shelter. Learn how his first night at the Mission impacted him and how he has not missed a beat since leaving the shelter! He is now giving back by volunteering at the Mission in his free time and is employed by a facility that works with at risk youth. Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event Planned for Saturday April 22, 2023, at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley
Past and Present volunteers, as well as those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to RSVP and welcome to attend from 10am-11am in the Mission’s Dining Hall.
The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley recorded an incredible 11,911 hours of volunteer time last year. Volunteers help in many areas of the ministry from serving and prepping meals to helping in our offices,

Bunni came to the Rescue Mission 8 months ago after his family had to sell a home he was supposed to inherit. Bunni had nowhere to go and heard about the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley through an agency. Shortly after coming to the mission Bunni was able to find an apartment. However, after he moved in, Bunni realized the apartment was unlivable and had to return to the Rescue Mission.
